Dr. Mehmet Unsoy is responsible for advising all mSolve’s clients on technology and industry related issues, mainly the positioning of such technologies in their respective eco-systems in the context of sale or fundraising transactions.
Dr. Unsoy is a telecom technology leader, with 30+ years of data, IP networking and wireless communication experience. He started his career with Bell Canada in the late 1970′s, helping to build the first public packet switching network across Canada, called Datapac.
Subsequently he led various product development projects at Bell Northern Research (BNR) in Ottawa, Canada, introducing various packet switching, ISDN, IP networking and broadband products for Nortel. During those years in 1980′s, Dr. Unsoy also participated in the international standards organizations, as part of the Canadian team at CCITT, contributing as Chair or Vice-Chair for the development of various international communication standards, based on packet switching.
During 1990′s, Dr. Unsoy was with Nortel, initially based in Tokyo, responsible to grow Nortel’s broadband product business in Asia Pacific. Subsequently he was based in Dallas, Texas and responsible for the growth of Nortel’s wireless products, especially 2.5G and 3G wireless data growth, working with mobile operators in the U.S. and around the world.
At the end of 1999, Dr. Unsoy joined British Telecom as VP of Technology, responsible for 3G deployments across BT’s 17 joint ventures around the globe. He subsequently served at CTO and CIO roles with O2 in the UK, Germany, Holland and Ireland. During those years with BT / O2, Mehmet interacted with both large and small innovative suppliers / equipment manufacturers, including various technology start-ups for the roll-out of new mobile services on O2′s networks.
Mehmet is currently or has been on the Executive Boards and Advisory Boards of several wireless related technology companies, in the U.S., Canada and Europe. He helps the executives of these companies with his deep technology and business experience and extensive global network in the mobile industry.
Dr Unsoy was a Partner at Cartagena Capital, a boutique investment bank, head-quartered in Munich, Germany, for 5 years, where he participated in about 20 M&A and fundraising transactions of TMT companies in Europe.
Mehmet has a BSEE degree from METU in Ankara, Turkey, and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada. His Ph.D. thesis was on congestion control of Arpanet, which was the predecessor to Internet. Dr. Unsoy is also a Registered Securities Representative with M&A Securities Group, Inc., member of FINRA, SiPC.
